Rating: Speaker will be none other than Henry’s great grandson
It seems quite fitting that the first-ever keynote address from an automotive industry leader at a Mobile World Congress will be delivered this year by the great grandson of Henry Ford – Bill Ford. Bill plans to outline the Ford Motor Company‘s future vision and discuss how technology and innovation can enhance personal freedom and mobility despite expanding vehicle populations and rapid urbanisation. Ford’s approach of talking directly to technology consumers and media began three years ago at the International CES show in Las Vegas. Ford has also had a major presence at the CeBIT, Hanover and IFA, Berlin shows in Germany. Continue reading

Rating: GoMo News baffled by BlackBerry Thank You app misbehaviour
There seems to be a general consensus – in light of no official confirmation from Research in Motion (RIM) – that probably the most popular and useful app given away by the BlackBerry maker as part of its Thank You Gift campaign was Drivesafe.ly. This app performs text-to-speech conversion (pretty effectively in our humble opinion) so that any received emails or text messages will be read out to you as you drive along. The app is produced by iSpeech.org which also decided to contribute its iSpeech Translator Pro app to the mix. Better still there were Enterprise and Pro versions of Drivesafe.ly in the giveaway. Rating: It’s Windows Phone Release 7.5 – Mango commercial release 2 (Mango + LTE), apparently
Much as we suspected, Nokia did actually launch the Lumia 900 at CES 2012 yesterday [January 9th 2012]. It is built exclusively for AT&T and is the Finish manufacturer’s first smartphone to support high-speed LTE data transfers. It’s also Nokia’s biggest yet thinnest Windows Phone to date. Crucially, it is a Windows Phone Release 7.5 – Mango Commercial Release 2 (Mango + LTE) – smartphone. That’s the first time we’ve heard of Mango 2! We had hoped to bring you full details as soon as the news broke but technical problems prevented this. So here’s more information taken from the official Nokia blog. Continue reading
Rating: T-Mobile appears to have found a loophole
By mistake, GoMo News appears to have stumbled across a possible loophole in the UK’s PRS [Premium Rate text Service] regulations. It’s a horoscope service operating using the shortcode 3030. Somehow – and we’re puzzled as to how it happened, an elderly relative managed to subscribe to this service. Sending the industry standard code ‘STOP’ and ‘STOP ALL’ back to that shortcode simply resulted in a message from T-Mobile which says, “You are not registered to any services on this shortcode.” Yet the horoscopes continued to arrive. GoMo News contacted the UK regulator, PhonepayPlus. A spokesperson for PhonepayPlus told this publication that it takes very seriously any allegations that the STOP command doesn’t work. Rating: As recommended by GoMo News
A security app for Android mobile phones which GoMo News has been unashamedly recommending – avast! Free Mobile Security – has been installed by over one million smartphone users in just 16 days. As Ondrej Vlcek, Avast Software‘s CTO put it, “It required Lookout a full six months to reach the one-million level for their mobile security product.” But Avast managed it in virtually a fortnight. It might have been quicker if Avast had formally informed us the full – rather than beta – version had finally been released. Continue reading
