Monthly Archives: January 2012
I will be looking forward to reading this at the weekend. But there are the highlights from the new Sunday Times App 500 list
According to new research released to coincide with The Sunday Times Apps List 2012 (first section published Sunday January 22) the majority of smartphone and tablet users believe that apps have made their lives better. In fact more than half say they use their phone more for apps than any other purpose such as emailing, texting or even calling. Continue reading

I read this article from the CEO of Mindshare Anthony Young. Now, I have to say for the first time I actually disagree. I didn’t go to CES and I didn’t miss anything! I read, saw viewed and gathered all that I needed online so did many.
Now, I wouldn’t miss Mobile World Congress next month, but I fear that social media is changing or has changed how we consume info…. so much that if you don’t physically need to go to every show. Continue reading
Rating: Sweet… but minty
Confectionary company Tic Tac mints is creating a super powered online, mobile, FaceBook and AR marketing campaign as part of a new Shake It Up campaign.
The company will offer an Augmented Reality mobile application. The app will allow users to interact with the mints themselves and get a daily dose of Shake It Up tips and tricks.
The campaign has several spheres and will also have a strong online and especially Facebook promotions. The mobile aspect is a Tic Tac Viewr application which sounds pretty interesting. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a video of it just yet though. Continue reading

Rating: You chance to meet the shakers & movers in the merging mobile health sector
Hoping to repeat the success of last year’s [2011's] show, the GSMA has teamed up with mHealth Alliance to bring you the GSMA-mHealth Alliance Mobile Health Summit 2012. MHS 2012 is aimed directly at the heart of the mobile health ecosystem. The emergence of the mobile health sector is creating new opportunities for both the mobile and the health industries to work better together. This event should aid collaboration between the two by providing a forum for leaders in their respective industries to meet up. The best bit is that the show takes place in beautiful Cape Town, South Africa between 29th May – 1st June 2012. What a nice venue! The best bit is that the Call for Papers for MHS doesn’t even open until 7th February . Continue reading

Rating: & we explain how to do it via Ringback Tone (RBT)
Reputedly nearly one in ten people have been dumped by text/SMS. Let’s assume that’s in the UK because it is taken from a survey of 2,000 people conducted by the mobile phone website Recombu.com. It found that around nine per cent of people have been told their relationship is over via an SMS to their mobile phone. The most famous example of this ploy is apparently Friends actress, Jennifer Aniston who was reportedly sent a text by boyfriend John Mayer that said – “That’s it – the end” back in 2008. This story reminds us of our own recent item about dumping your partner by ringback tone (RBT). It’s possible to do so via an app on Muzicall’s Facebook page. But the company still isn’t advertising the fact on its Ringtagz site. Continue reading
