Facebook expected to announce mobile ads solution

Rating: Mobile users should soon outnumber static ones

It seems that the leading social network, Facebook, is intent on grabbing the headlines during MWC week. The best rumour GoMo News has seen is that the company is that this coming Wednesday [29th February 2012], it will unveil and advertising platform that will enable it to tap into the mobile advertising market. This makes a great deal of sense given the company’s flotation despite distinctly unimpressive venue streams. It has just released figures which show that roughly half (425 million out of 850 million) of its users now access the service from smartphones. Facebook could have done without the accusations that it is reading its users text messages, though. Continue reading

google Web swamped with Google glasses stories

Rating: We can see the augmented reality bit but …

Wow. The wires are all alive with rumours about a very futuristic project which Google is supposedly working on. The device has been speculatively named the Google X glasses. A very good reason for this being that Google Goggles is a very, very different kettle of fish. If the punters are right, this will be a major move for Google into the realms of wearable mobile phones. Such devices have been muted for many years and previously relied on Bluetooth technology. The important difference here is that Google glasses won’t act as a mere peripheral. They will be completely standalone communications devices – almost certainly using cellular technology. bogger Survey shows that Brit males take their smartphone into the loo

Rating: Existence of the ‘bogger’ discovered by shampoo maker

It’s a frightening thought but this story may well be being read but a Brit male seated on the lavatory. That’s the astonishing conclusion of a recent survey, carried out by Procter & Gamble – makers of the Head & Shoulders shampoo brand. Previously it was a typical male habit for men to take a tabloid newspaper into the toilet to help them wile the time away. Now it seems that around 50 per cent (one in two) of all British men regularly takes their mobile phone into the loo to surf the internet. That compares to around 33 per cent (one third) of men who still take a newspaper into the bathroom while they perform their ablutions. GoMo News is wondering how long it will take for a software developer to create a game specifically aimed at those on the loo seat? Maybe it could even be financed by in-app adverts for toilet tissue? Continue reading

Telmap Telmap’s CMO, Motti Kushnir, on being Intel’s LBS arm

Rating: Location Based Service (LBS) is the next big battleground

Never a dull moment when you chat with Motti Kushnir who is Telmap’s CMO. He was explaining to GoMo News the thinking around chip maker, Intel’s, acquisition of the Israeli company back in November [2011]. Incidentally, Kushnir actually pointed out that if you took the software and services division out of Intel, it would probably be the third largest software house in the world. Today [February 23rd 2012], Telmap announced the impending release of its version 6.0 of the Telmap Mobile Location Companion service. However, what Kushnir had to say about the whole LBS sector was intriguing. Like, if Apple doesn’t make LBS a central feature of the iPhone 5 (when that eventually sees the light of day), it will be dead in the water. Continue reading
