adfonic_video-ad Video ads can now be embedded says Adfonic

Rating: Solution works with Android and iOS devices

The snag with traditional mobile video ads is that they require navigation to a remote player – like YouTube – in order for the handset owner to view the video ad clip. This is far from satisfactory. However, Adfonic claims to have developed a mobile video ad solution which makes use of a device’s native [iOS or Android] video player to take the user from the ad within a mobile site or app straight to a high quality TV-like video commercial. As soon as the video concludes, the user is returned to the app or mobile site. This development will enable advertisers to run TV-style video campaigns across Adfonic’s global network of mobile sites and apps. Continue reading

Rating: Ice Cream Sandwich for one hundred quid

We’re not quite sure exactly what barrier Vodafone UK and Huawei have broken through but the pair are offering what can only be described as a dirt cheap Android handset. It comes in the shape of the Ascend G 300. It’s actually possible to acquire this handset for £100 on PAYG (prepaid). Probably the most impressive part to this deal is that although the handset will ship with the Gingerbread release of the Android OS – the pair are promising that an upgrade to the ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich) version of the Android OS will become available “later this Summer”. On exactly the same day [April 10th 2012] that QR/3D barcode specialist – NeoMedia Technologies announced that it is suing a rival firm, the company in question – SpyderLynk declares that it has finally received a patent on its own technology. Curiously, NeoMedia originally claimed that it was suing SpyderLynk over three different patents. mpowa_logo Retailer-in-a-field-at-a-music-festival payment system from mPowa

Rating: It’s British but it ain’t quite here yet

Talk about cryptic ways on announcing the launch of a new product. mPowa‘s Rye Starr just left up a comment against one of our stories. What she should have done is left the message against this story’Eventbrite takes on PayPal with At The Door reader‘. That news item covered two payment solutions aimed at the mobile retailer. One was PayPal Here (see our previous story) whilst the other was from Eventbrite. Both focus on iOS devices and have a distinctly US-orientated flavour. By contrast, Mpowa looks very British and claims to have a BlackBerry OS client, too. The one snag – well, mPowa isn’t actually available yet. Continue reading

glasses_cool Googles AR glasses outed in San Francisco

Rating: Could this lead to augmented reality bling?

Google’s decision to unveil a pair of augmented reality (AR) glasses via a Google Circles’ posting caused something of a stir within the industry. Especially since the news was almost immediately followed by reports (and photographs) of Google own co-founder Sergey Brin out in San Francisco wearing them. The first picture was courtesy of blogger Robert Scoble on Twitter here. However, Brin appears to have confirmed that the Google Glasses were still very much at prototype stage. The glasses are actually the result of researchers working on something called Project Glass and the chief culprits appear to be Babak Parviz, Steve Lee and Sebastian Thrun. You can view their Circles posting here. GoMobile News was intrigued to get a reaction to the news from Christian Lindholm, CIO was design house – Fjord. Continue reading
