Qwikker (www.qwikker.com) is supporting 3’s promotion of its new 3MusicStore by allowing ‘enabled’ mobile users to download an exclusive music track remix from P Diddy’s Press Play album. The track, The Future, was available to everyone via Bluetooth, free of charge, regardless of mobile operator, through Qwikker’s network of 450 pubs. Qwikker allows brands to deliver ‘freemium’ content at no cost to end users, as well as premium content payable by SMS, credit card or cash.

Neither 3 nor Qwikker have given out numbers regarding the downloads, so it’s hard to say how successful the exercise, between 6th and 20th November was. Nevertheless it is so the right idea, providing highly desirable content that it exclusive to mobile. 3 is working hard to be super cool – which in itself is a contradiction in terms – but previous strategies haven’t turned into money and it remain to be seen if 3MusicStore can do for mobile music what iPod did for broadband downloads.
