UK mobile operator, 3 UK, has struck a deal with eBay to embed its popular online shopping app on around 700,000 Android handsets. Smartphones with the latest version of the Android software will be in stores with the app pre-installed from this Spring. “The deal with eBay is part of 3 UK’s efforts to allow people to experience the benefits of the internet wherever they are,” commented Neil Andrews, head of media sales and content services. Andrews added, “Customers looking for a bargain can shop with the eBay app at high speeds on the latest devices without fear of ending up with a massive out of bundle charge.”
eBay is already one of the most used shopping apps with over 70 million downloads worldwide.
The company generated almost $5 billion in mobile revenues last year, more than five times the amount compared to 2010, spurred by the surge in mCommerce and smartphone usage.
The app – which will appear on the main apps menu as well as on the side swipe screen – will ensure 3 UK’s mobile internet userbase can access eBay’s world leading online marketplace on the go.
With 3 UK’s All-You-Can-Eat data plans, bidders can browse the catalogue of items, watch auctions and bid wherever they are, without worrying about high mobile data bills.
3 UK recently upgraded its network to provide mobile internet speeds of up to 21.1 Mbit/s.
