3GVision has announced that more than 120 million mobile users worldwide are using its 2D barcode reader to instantly launch to the mobile web on their mobile devices.
How?
Leading content providers and major advertisers such as Sun in the UK, Gazzetta Dello Sport in Italy, Yellow Pages in Spain and Pepsi Max in UK are utilizing 3Gvision’s i-nigma platform to push and track mobile editorial and marketing campaigns using barcodes integrated in outdoor advertising, in-store displays, newspapers, packaging and other media.
And….
3Gvision’s i-nigma has been successfully deployed commercially by top mobile operators such as Telstra, France Telecom, Claro, Hutchison 3, NTT Docomo, KDDI, SoftBank and Willcom. Moreover, 3Gvision’s reader is pre-embedded as a native application by Telstra and France Telecom, as well as most Japanese handset manufacturers and vendors including Nokia, Samsung, LG, Sony Ericsson, Motorola, Panasonic, Casio, Hitachi, Sanyo, Sharp, NEC, Kyocera and Toshiba.
What we think?
Since 2003 3G Vision has been a strong competitor in this space and payback is starting to happen. 120 million is good. But there are billions of people in the world all potential mobile barcode users. The time is now to go forth and conquer in this market. Indeed, ROI can be slow (especially in the operator revenue share game) but nonetheless worthy.
But I would throw in a word of caution to 3G Vision using numbers to push success is tough as numbers go down just as fast as they go up.
