3GSM: Infospace and InfoGin join Mobile Browsing Forces
Rating: Infospace rolls up its sleeves
First an announcement to extend the mobile search platform agreement with Fast Search and then a partnership with InfoGin; Infospace is shifting in to 4th gear in terms of visibility, marketability and mobile search/ Internet portfolio in mobile.
Does this come as a surprise?
Yes quite frankly. A few months ago I was predicting that Infospace would bow out of mobile. One hard hit from a mobile operator loss shook the Internet/Portal aspect of the business and morale was low. But suddenly at 3GSM it’s a new look InfoSpace with a “bull in a china shop” attitude.
Infospace and Fast Search have found each other. InfoGin will be great for Infospace in the off-deck space and more services are in the pipeline.
A feature on Fastsearch vs Infospace with the new collaboration in mind will be available in next months Mobile Search Analyst.
Infospace is now in it for the long term according to Fast Search’s Mike Brady and Infospace’s Brendan Brenzing(listen to podcast here).
With regards to InfoGin… the collaboration will ensure a seamless off-deck mobile Internet experience for mobile. The browser is just as important as the search in the new Mobile 2.0 environment.
New analysis in the Mobile Search Analyst includes: Novarra vs Opera vs InfoGin and Flash vs Java.
