3GSM: Jumptap and Openwave collaborate on Mobile Advertising

Rating: bullseye

JumpTap and Openwave have entered into a strategic relationship to facilitate mobile advertising opportunities for mobile operators.

Who are they?
JumpTap is one of the top three leading providers of mobile search. JumpTap is at the border of mobile search and mobile advertising – a real Molotov cocktail to offer to mobile operators who need to ignite their income from data services.

Openwave is a software provider for mobile comms. Its strengths lie in profiling and personalisation. Openwave ensures the delivery of information from third parties or content provider to mobile subscribers.

What will they do together?
They aim to improve mobile advertising experience for the consumer by delivering suitable and relevant adverts. They also hope to bring greater success to advertisers in the mobile space.

How?
JumpTap and Openwave plan to marry profile and context – basically, improve the method or the context of the mobile advertising based on knowledge from the two companies. They will use the existing information (Openwave’s profiles) and JumpTap’s (search patterns) to deliver either text or banner advertising to users.

The end result?
JumpTap and Openwave hope to create a win-win situation. Consumers get relevant mobile ads and advertisers clinch sales.

What do we think?
It sounds interesting, but both companies need to put this into practice. This doesn’t only mean create a solid partnership, but also encourage users to use more mobile search and cosy up to mobile advertisers. Mobile advertising is still very young. These steps by Openwave and JumpTap are moving the right direction, but the gambit is far from fruition.

It is clear is that relevance, targeting, profiling and personalisation are essential to mobile advertising and that these two companies are partnering with the intention of being leaders in this sector. Time will tell.

Another great way to advertise your brand and exposure for your business is vehicle graphics, wraps and lettering. Positive results would include Target advertising. One day, one week, and long term campaigns. Convention coverage. Sporting events coverage. Store grand openings or other similar promotional events.
