3GVision teams with Connecthings for France

Rating: one barcode reader for Flashcode, QR and Matrix

Hoping to extend the use of 2D barcode technology to most mobile phone models in France, 3GVision has announced a partnership with French Connecthings. Campaigns can be created with Flashcode as well as QR and DataMatrix.

Connecthings will help publishers, advertisers, government agencies and local businesses create 2D barcode campaigns and mobile applications. The campaigns will use Flashcode technology which the pair claim is the ‘official’ national barcode standard of France.

Any phone equipped with a sufficient resolution camera will be able to read all barcode types provided users have pre-installed a Flashcode reader on their devices. The alternative is to downloads 3GVision’s barcode reading application, i-nigma.

The i-nigma barcode reading application is already be used in the City of Toulouse to fast-track mobile subscribers and tourists to location and time based content.

In Toulouse mobile subscribers scan Flashcode, QR and Data Matrix barcodes with their cameraphones and gain access to virtual guides of the city, maps, real-time location based messages and multimedia content.

“The partnership comes amid fast-expanding use of mobile phones -including the iPhone for scanning 2D barcodes for quick and easy access to desired information and multimedia on the mobile web,” commented Connecthings’ CEO, Laetitia Gazel Anthoine.

3GVision claims the i-nigma end-to-end 1D/2D mobile barcode solution offers a highly intuitive barcode creation, campaign management and reporting platform. The offering includes tools to enable real-time tracking of on-going campaign success.

Success is gauged on the number of codes scanned and response volume by location, time, user segmentation and media type.

The company says this will enable advertisers and marketers to overcome the challenges of managing campaigns – particularly through real-time insights on performance and their target audience.
