Rating: another teen network

4INFO has announced that social networking company Gaia Online has joined the 4Info publishing family.

What?
This means that it will not use the 4INFO SMS publishing platform. So its member can receive text from anywhere, get secret or private messages etc. Gaia Online joines Evite, Phonezoo, SayNow, TuneFly and the FoneShow.

What is Gaia Online?
Gaia Online was founded in 2003 by comic book fans. Millions of teens play games, make friends via the online community. There is 4INFO widget on the homepage that will let users sign up for alerts on mobile.

From the press release
“Texting has achieved a huge following among teens, and by using 4INFO’s publishing platform, businesses can reach easily this audience and keep them connected to their brands and services,” said Ted Burns, VP of product for 4INFO.

“More than 2.5 million loyal teens visit Gaia every month, and now we’re rewarding them by offering a free, easy-to-use service that lets them stay in touch with their virtual community when they’re away from the computer,” said Charles Hudson, director of business development for Gaia Online. “4INFO’s publishing platform is a great fit for our teen audience, which has embraced texting in a big way.”

What we think?
Now if only there was something like this for the older generation. I just checked out Gaia and its easy and cool and a no-brainer. But enough about Gaia. This is good new for 4INFO as it tries to push its status in the market. The company is moving to an all round SMS player toying with advertising as well – rather than a SMS search provider.

With this new service 4INFO will also trigger advertising into partner messages creating a new revenue stream for the Web 2.0 business. Even though this is great for the business as funding Web 2.0 businesses can be a challenge – it is not always great for the consumer.
