Rating: oh dear
At CES 4Info has announced a new “Single-Click” search engine for the Mobile Internet. The solution apparently finds answers and not merely results. The search engine is available at http://m.4info.net.
From the press release:
“Until now searching for information using the mobile web has been a frustrating experience for a majority of people,” said CEO of 4INFO, Zaw Thet. “4INFO’s new mobile search engine eliminates the frustrations related to mobile web search — from multiple keystrokes, to slow download times by providing people with the answers they’re looking for in as little as one click. With the launch of our mobile search engine, 4INFO further establishes its position as the reliable leader in mobile search and gives customers a way to get accurate answers and real results from their mobile devices.”
What we think?
Anything that sounds too good to be true usually is. Some aspects of the search were simple such as finding a chat up line or horoscope. But the search depends on the fact that the user knows or has the relevant information. This is frustrating as often users are unaware of the local postcode, or exact airline reference. 4Info is an SMS search specialist and this is vividly apparent in the search engine that is really a SMS style information retrieval search service. It will be popular with people who just want answers to questions such on times of flights etc. but it does not offer recommendation or discovery.
