Rating: Transpera bring weather forecasts by city and region to mobile

I got the chance for a quick chat with David Mitchell, Director of Wireless for Accuweather. Accuweathers highly popular on-line weather forecast videos will be coming to your mobile device from next week. As announced last September,  Transpera will be providing the back-end services required to move the videos to mobile, but David was able to give me a few extra details about the service closer to the date.

Cian O’Sullivan (COS): What exactly will be on offer?

DM: Accuweather currently generates forecasts for 110 cities in America, all of which update 4 times a day. There’s also reports on a regional and nationwide level, so it’s a massive undertaking. We’ve partnered with Transpera basically to take on that digital video asset and repurpose it for mobile. The service will be quite similar to what we have online. So, through your mobile device, you can expect a national overview, along with the option to enter your zip code (or city name) for local video weather update. We’ll also have a main breaking news section, along with bloopers and lifestyle sections for lighter content

COS: Will there be any other content available? How about advertising?

DM: Only Accuweather content will be shown on the actual portal. As for ads, there will be plenty of advertising opportunity. We’re offering sponsorship, pre-roll video, and a leave behind ad.
