Neoreader mobile barcode reader

NeoMedia is emerging from the shadows of the mobile barcode space with its second licensing agreement for its mobile barcode patented technology. In a fascinating new agreement enterprise messaging and application leader Neustar, has signed an IP licensing agreement for 2D barcodes.

Neustar plans to create a “one stop shop” for consumer brands to deliver rich barcode applications and services.

This is very good news for Neustar. It can offer strong services without any infringements.

It’s not the best news for Scanbuy, which is bitterly embroiled in a law suit with NeoMedia, in relationship to the patents.

Without a doubt the news is excellent for NeoMedia. The company is finally emerging back from immense competition, woe and a dramatic, but somewhat bitter tale of trouble, which is only possible in the mobile space.

But what does it mean?
The first licensing agreement in France was a given. The companies knew each other and ex-NeoMedia boss sits at the helm of mobiletag. But Neustar is very different. It was never a direct competitor it’s the leading enabler.

Neustar could never infringe of patents because of its own service level agreements to brands and business. It must provide a stellar, strong, reliable and infringement free service. Neustar is much bigger than many companies and indeed Scanbuy.

But the fundamental reason that this is an extremely lucrative deal for NeoMedia is the possibility of its reach and the overall reach of the mobile barcode business for NeoMedia.

Static barcodes are a nice to have.

The indirect code adds a business model and a revenue stream to any business. With NeoMedia also strongly gripping on to many barcode search patents the emphasis on the indirect code and the possibilities into the next 3 years are limitless.

In short, the focus on the business; the determination to borrow money and not give in … has paid off.

Barcodes are it and consumers or the enterprise are hungry for them.

Predictions.. from Bena and no one else.

In the bitter legal battle between NeoMedia and Scanbuy – both parties recently requested a two week extension. In the light of this we are convinced Scanbuy will license NeoMedia’s technology and the bitter feud will end.

NeoMedia will start to realise its patent inventory and finally start to unleash new services in the business that reflect its IP backbone in several key areas

If you knew more about how this “borrowing” actually works, you would probably be far less inclined to describe it in positive terms.

without a doubt - neomedia would not be here without the money or loan. It has saved the company - that is a fact. But I am not an expert on this and that is just my opinion - opinions make the world go round and I can’t say more than that!
