Amdocs launches Search and Digital Advertising Solution?

Hmm. Amdocs has hooked its claws into Mobile Search and Advertising by providing a solution that is supposed to make targeting adverts – better than ever.
How?
Apparently this new solution leverages mobile operators existing valuable assets such as subscriber data to improve the targeting of the advertising.
The solution consolidates search and digital advertising – so that providers can push user data into the search results making adverts more personalised to the user.
From the press release
“To capture a significant portion of revenues generated from new mobile growth areas such as advertising and commerce, service providers will need to not only successfully leverage their core assets but also collaborate with new partners. To profit from mobile advertising and search, service providers will need to insert their unique value in the mobile advertising value chain in the form of their customer and network data. When leveraged effectively, this data will enable advertisers to better target their ads at their mobile customer while at the same time provide these customers with more relevant ads that correlate to their interests,” said Sharon Ballard, senior analyst with the Yankee Group. “Amdocs Search and Digital Advertising Solution will help service providers tap into these new revenue opportunities by leveraging their core data assets as well as collaborate with new partners such as advertisers in the open mobile ecosystem.”
What we think?
I am sorry but this sounds like utter rubbish to me. How can knowing if a person is on 2G or 3G better target the advert? Also a mobile is a personal tool and pushing relevant adverts via a search engine is best done by the search provider that has the search history than a billing provider that has seen you might once have downloaded a Robbie song for your mother.
The best line from the press release is
Amdocs’ search technology offsets vague and ambiguous search queries to deliver highly accurate and relevant results that improve over time as the system acquires more knowledge about subscriber behavior
Oh PLEASE. This is a lets take advantage of a hot new market area kind of service if ever I saw one.

What’s it like using a combination of pigeons and smoke signals to communicate? In this day and age it is rare to find someone who does not use a phone to talk - more power to you, friend!
Personally, I use my phone a lot. My provider knows who I call, when, how often, how often I roam, how often I dial internationally, how I pay my bills, my age, my sex, my address, whether I have kids or not, if I am married or not, how much I spend on my phone, how often I replace it and with what model…get the picture, friend?? And all this without even downloading a single ringtone, browsing a single site, or using 1 nano-byte of data!
Still think that the Telco can’t play in this game?
And Google thinks they know who I am?? Please. Praise the Google-Gods as much as you want, they have no idea what I want or what I need when it comes to advertising.
