Rating: good idea, needs converts

Amobee Media Systems has partnered with PacketVideo to help operators and advertisers generate new revenue streams from the mobile video and entertainment market.

The partnership will allow mobile operators to serve targeted, opt-in advertising impressions within PacketVideo’s media platform, PacketVideo Experience, without interrupting the user’s experience. Amobee is demonstrating this service at Mobile Entertainment Markets in Monte Carlo this week.

PacketVideo’s powers music and video services for Verizon, NTT DoCoMo, Orange and T-Mobile, on more than 160 different handset models.

Saurav Chopra of Amobee, said: “By allowing mobile users to ad-fund their mobile video services, usage will increase, and grow the operators’ data revenue.”

The theory’s good, but operators remain cautious about advertising and there are few signs of that changing in a hurry. And, as ever, high data tariffs are an inhibitor to video via mobile.
