Rating: oh really?! Proof there is no ad inventory and all ad companies are desperate

Mobile advertising company Amobee that recently got dollars from Vodafone and Telefonica has selected Interep/ Winstar Interactive to sell mobile advertising inventory.

From the press release
“This is the first time we’re selling advertising on mobile phones and we’re eager to work with Amobee since its technology is the only one capable of inserting advertising impressions in all forms of content: WAP Browsing, Video & Music, SMS, MMS, and Games. We are excited to introduce our customers to this new medium,” said Adam Guild, President and Chief Executive Officer of Winstar Interactive. “Our partnership with Amobee will enable advertisers to better understand mobile inventory and will encourage brands and media buyers to take advantage of the opportunities in mobile advertising.”

“There is a significant distinction between ad-serving and ad-selling expertise. We believe our strategy of partnering with a trusted name in advertising sales will be the most effective way to reach major advertisers and will immediately eclipse any homegrown ad sales for mobile in terms of reach,” said Zohar Levkovitz, Chief Executive Officer of Amobee Media Systems.

What we think?

In short, Amobee has a platform but can’t get brands to advertise. This new partnership with Winstar might help. But Winstar has never done mobile ad selling. (Wow that is a success story if ever I heard one – who are your investors).

What we think part 2?
At MEF Live some person raved to me about Amobee. So I asked them to name how many full commercial deployments Amobee had with operators. They had no idea. Then I asked, which services have they tested? The ones like AdMob (???!!!!)

I think my “hit in the face with a brick” shocked and stunned look did the trick as he tried to climb out – he said…. B,bu, bub, but, Vodafone is investing.

I said, “yeah, great – how must Orange feel. Orange and Amobee did a mobile ad serving trial push in the very beginning”. He said, yeah but everyone wants to advertise on Vodafone?

At this point, I realised that this guy and me were on different planets and I thought I should leave. He asked me to blog the conversation – so he still didn’t realise I thought he was a ****.

In reality the conversation with him was as about exciting as watching ice melt or perhaps launching MMA ad standards in Asia.

With ignorance such as this – its no wonder mobile ad inventory is low. Even so called industry leaders have no idea about the basics.

**Sorry – it’s been a long day and Qantas must be the worst airline in the world there was a roach in my salad** (If you want to know more – you have to read the personal blog).
