Don’t get your hopes up, but you’re about to see a picture of Android running on a Nokia 5230 and X6. Unfortunately it’s just a marketing error, and the picture from the billboard is a big mistake.
What’s the story?
Posterous-user Mauricio Reyes posted the pic on his account last Thursday – he spotted the poster on London’s Oxford St.
It’s definitely just a mistake though, as the new head of Mobile Solutions for Nokia, Anssi Vanjoki, confirmed on the Nokia blog earlier this month, when he said “despite rumors to the contrary, there are no plans to introduce an Android device from Nokia.” Nokia will be sticking with Symbian for the foreseeable future.
It’s probably for the best. With S60, Symbian^3, Maemo and Meego on the cards already, Nokia really doesn’t need another mobile OS. Although, in fairness, if you really want to run Android on a Nokia device, you can get 2.2 up and running on an N900.
What’s that? Symbian^4 already? Oh, come on…
