Rating: look out, here comes InfoGin

Search/content gurus InfoGin is to deploy its Intelligent Mobile Platform (IMP) on AOL Germany, which has just launched an MVNO in Germany called AOL Mobile. Telecom Italia has just bought AOL Germany, which uses O2’s German network.

InfoGin will power the mobile portal with its content adaptation and smart navigation technologies, extending its strong, established partnership with AOL. Now mobile subscribers will be able to browse the “real Internet” on the move.

I met InfoGin earlier this year. The demo of its technology and services was a breath of fresh air: they give all Internet sites (mobile-enabled or not) the look and feel of the web on a handset – seamlessly. Tricky navigation is avoided and users achieve a simple, streamlined experience. The company name comes from the gin device used in the cotton industry: it separated the cotton fibres from the seedpods and other extraneous material.

AOL Germany offers contract and pre-paid tariffs. The 24-month contracts will cost EUR 4.99 per month and there will be a connection price of EUR 19.99, although this will be waived for those who sign up before December 31, 2006. Minute rates for AOL Mobile start at EUR 0.19 per minute.
