Apple - No plans to bring MobileMe multi licensing to SME’s

by: admin Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

In my write up yesterday on MobileMe, Apple’s “Exchange for the rest of us“, I pointed out that I thought not having a multi licensing deal for SME’s really missed a trick and that although I’m sure the consumer market was a good one, here was a great opportunity for Apple to bridge the IT gap. A small to medium company may not have in-house IT support, but would welcome the features of MobileMe especially shared/push calenders, contacts and push email.

Apple’s PR have confirmed that Apple have no plans to offer a licence pack for SME’s, indeed they said “We have nothing more to add than what was said in the keynote yesterday, is written in our releases (apple.com/pr) and is on our web site. A single and Family pack is what we are making available.”

Well really Apple, its not Exchange for rest of us then is it? Don’t get me wrong I love Apple products, I’m writing this on my 20″ iMac and I also have an iBook, iPod Touch and a 3G iPhone order placed, but I have loads of experience of creating start up companies where communication is the key element between clients, management and staff and a MobileMe solution would have been an attractive one. It really struck me that if Apple offered a 10 or 20 licence deal with an added support option, or even a whole package solution with 10 iPhones then a lot of companies would just buy this off the shelf.

I’m sure one of Apple’s 3rd part resellers can rise to the challenge and clean up. Am I missing the point here? Leave a comment and let us know!
