AtomPark Software has announced the public release of Atomic Blue, its Bluetooth broadcasting software app. Atomic Blue sends ads or other messages to passing mobile devices with Bluetooth enabled.
From AtomPark:
“Atomic Blue Sender allows users to communicate with every Bluetooth-enabled device passing in the surrounding area, sending offers, specials, coupons, product details and prize promotions in order to advertise and promote their products, ensuring people do not leave vicinity without visiting their stores. Such promotional method is called Bluetooth marketing.”
What we think?
Ok… bluetooth has been used as push advertising for mobiles for at least two or three years now, so calling this new is a bit cheeky. Bluetooth can be used effectively, but mostly it hasn’t. As a service it’s incredibly open to spam. It doesn’t really count as permission-based when it asks for permission every time you enter the broadcast radius. You still have to take your phone out of your pocket to accept or deny, and that annoys people.
I’ve never encountered a decent bluetooth campaign myself, but if anyone knows of one could they send me the details? cian@gomonews.net
