AT&T teams up with Napster

Rating: Welcome to the 21st century

Sitting in the boardroom at Napster the team of 75 year old men who run innovation and product development have finally woken up to the world of mobile music downloads.  They panicked after noticing a youth walking down the street listening to the gramophone on his mobile and, fearing they were missing a revenue stream, teamed up with Napster and Samsung to rush out a phone capable of downloading music.

The Samsung SLM, as it is now known, is the typical (for the US market) ugly plastic clamshell which looks like it has been ejected from some Chinese production line.  It is the first time that AT&T has let users download songs and it gives access to Napster’s library of 5m tunes for $1.99 a pop or $7.49 for five.  It is a thoroughly uninspiring offer in my opinion - boring handset, boring music offering, just get an iPhone.
