Bango Analytics for PC’s Three Questions with Sarah Keefe VP Marketing Bango

I got this press release from Bango and I thought it was interesting as it seems to be a move from mobile to online.

What is the story?

Bango Analytics for PCs is available as part of an Early Access Program at www.bango.com/eap.   The webmaster puts a line of code into the home page of the PC website and Bango starts measures unique visitors to the website from mobile devices with specific details on the users’ country, network and device.  All the data is viewable from the Bango Management tools console in real-time.

So, I contacted Bango and sent  three questions to help me clarify – here are the questions and the response;  huge thanks to Sarah Keefe for a quick response!

Bena: Competitors are banging the drum for a pure mobile offer so why online?

Sarah:Yes, the industry definitely needs a pure mobile offering and we have this with our established mobile analytics product which draws on our 9 years of understanding of mobile to provide specific mobile metrics. But we found that some of the major brands who you’d think should have a mobile site don’t.  And when we asked them why, the most common answer was, “We simply have no idea how much of our traffic is from mobile.”  So the Bango Analytics for PC product helps them decide the best time to go mobile.  By measuring what percentage of their consumers access the website on the go, businesses have the figures to get management sign-off to develop a mobile strategy. Otherwise they are guessing in the dark.

Bena: Can you track more than just site visits?

Sarah: Yes, for all the mobile traffic to the PC site, we provide the same level of detail as we do for the established mobile analytics product.  You get to see the user’s country, network, make and model of mobile device and the total number of unique visitors.  You can see what are the top devices you need to optimize your mobile site for and where the traffic is coming from in case you need to develop localized versions on mobile.

Bena: Do you need to go on line to provide a richer offer because the mobile space is still not large enough?
The mobile analytics space is growing fast so no, we don’t see the mobile space as not large enough. The new Bango Analytics for PCs service addresses a very real need in the market. We want to help folks move to mobile but only where it makes sense.
