Rating: New inclusive minutes new tariffs new friends day

The mobile operator E-Plus’ mobile flatrate brand Base has launched several changes to its tariffs.
1. BASE 1 and BASE 2 will include 60 minutes of inclusive minutes worth EUR 15 for calls to “other” mobile networks.
2. BASE 5 now offers unlimited call in Germany for EUR 75 per month

What is BASE 1?
BASE 1 cost EUR 15 per month and it includes all calls to the German fixed line. This now also includes 60 minutes of calls to “other” mobile networks

What is BASE 2?
BASE 2 was the first mobile flatrate in Germany. It cost EUR 25 per month for all mobile to mobile internal calls and to fixed lines. This offer now has 60 minutes to “other” mobiles included.

What is BASE 5?
Thisis an all inclusive tariff without a time limit for all fixed lines and business calls for EUR 75 per month – regardless of which phone is being called within Germany.

BASE Student offers
10% reduction on all BASE products for students.

BASE Friend day
On the 6th of March it will be BASE friend day where there will be special offers for 25 free SMS for friends. Also other promos such as cinema evenings etc will be on offer.

NEW CRM
BASE is also going to improve its customer care centre making it more flexible and introducing online chat with experts.

What we think?
These improvements to BASE are unquestionable essential – but I had expected more. The push here is to make BASE a brand but actually BASE should be about forming a community or becoming interactive.

Slashing prices only starts a price war. I had expected BASE to launch an on device portal for consumers so that it could recreate a MyFaves via BASE. BASE 2 is popular with the student market and this could have flown.

But instead BASE is focusing on TV advertising which is vital but with the rise of social media – I fear that many companies and especially operators are missing out on a stellar opportunity.
