Blyk continues it’s Christmas Blitz with an offering for youth market research

Rating: New service allows companies to gather information from large panels of 16-24 year olds

Ad-funded free mobile network Blyk has launched a new service, marshalling it’s 200,000 large youth audience into a feedback service for advertisers and surveyors.

It will operate almost exactly the same way as its current targeted SMS ad service. Instead of targeting ads, though, Blyk will be targeting questions to it’s users through SMS. Surveyors can place what questions they like to their targeted audience, with a pretty much immediate response time.

From the release:

Shaun Gregory, UK CEO, Blyk said: “This exciting addition to Blyk’s product portfolio comes as a reaction to the demand in the current market and enhances the Blyk proposition for brands and advertisers. At Blyk, we are building on what we have already learned from tapping into the views and opinions of our members – we have now opened the doors for other brands to do the same.”

What we think?

Yet another big announcement from Blyk for the shopping season! I wonder how many more of these it’s got squirelled away?

It’s a great idea for advertisers and surveyors, but not so great for users. Getting surveyed by text can’t be as annoying as getting a call survey, but it’ll still a pain in the behind for users. Blyk made no mention of whether or not they’re going to offer any incentive for users to answer the questions, but it seems to me that even a tiny amount of talk time offered per question answered would massively boost user response.
