Bonnaroo 2008 gets down with Mobile Social Networking
Festival goers at America’s largest music, arts and cinema festival, Bonnaroo will be able to sign up for alerts, access performance schedules for specific artists, as well as send their friends messages featuring real-time comments under Festival listings – all from their mobile phones thanks to a mobile social network and event resource powered by New York-based buzzd.Bonnaroo Mobile is accessible through the mobile Web browser of consumers’ handsets and SMS. On the mobile Web side, users can browse through the different categories of the Festival, including Music, Comedy, Cinema and Arts. Each category selection features its own schedule of events for the day, at which point users can choose to find which events are occurring at which stages, when artists will be performing and read real-time feedback on performances from other fans.
Said Chad Issaq of Superfly Productions, co-producers, with AC Entertainment, of Bonnaroo “Bonnaroo Mobile will bring the entire festival to our fans’ fingertips. With so many entertainment options, the platform allows our attendees to make the most of their experience, while keeping tabs on their friends,”.
“User-generated real-time updates at festivals have traditionally been the missing ingredient in mobile activations. For example, wouldn’t you love to know if a band was late, or if a special guest artist just jumped on one of the stages?” asks buzzd CEO Nihal Mehta. Users can register for Bonnaroo Mobile immediately by clicking the “Bonnaroo Mobile” link at Bonnaroo.com, or by texting ‘BM’ to 96321. The service is completely free for the user and works across all cellular carriers.
Bonnaroo 2008 brings together an eclectic group of performers including Kanye West, Jack Johnson, Metallica, Death Cab for Cutie, Rilo Kiley and Lupe Fiasco, in addition to offering an arcade, a movie theater, a silent disco, a comedy club and a beer festival, among several other activities and attractions. Named “Festival of the Year” by nearly every major music publication, Bonnaroo is an all-encompassing experience, virtually acting as its own city for four days, populated by rock n’ roll-loving citizens.
