You actually have to be a TalkTalk Mobile customer, tho
Leading British provider, TalkTalk Mobile reckons it has just introduced Britain’s lowest priced SIM only plan for just £3.50 a month. What it doesn’t mention, however, is that in order to take advantage of this particularly attractive offer you actually have to be an existing TalkTalk customer. And as far as we can see this means you have to take its fixed broadband package. Still, it’s a nice offer especially when customers can double the amount of data they get if they order online instead of by phone.
The company actually offers just three SIM only tariffs: small for £3.50 a month; medium for £7.50 and large for £15.
With the small tariff, you get 100 minutes, 250 texts but only 100 MB of data. That doubles to 200 MB of data if you buy online.
Perhaps the best online deal is the large tariff since you get 4 GB of data instead of just 2 GB merely by making your purchase online.
The move comes as part of the company’s tariff refresh (and adding more minutes, texts and data to existing tariffs), which also sees TalkTalk Mobile offer unlimited calls and texts for the first time.
The company also claims to have disrupted the mobile market by offering smartphones from just £5 a month with no upfront cost.
The popular Samsung Galaxy S4 is available from £30 a month on a 24-month contract from TalkTalk Mobile, too.
“With more handsets than people out there, our SIM only price plans are perfect for people who want to keep their current handset or hand it down to their children, without having to take a pricey contract.,” TalkTalk Mobile’s Dan Meader.
“We want people to have more choice and flexibility.”
What Meader doesn’t mention is which network this UK MNVO (mobile virtual network operator) utilises.
We think it is Vodafone. This is important as you can normally an MVNO’s SIM card inside the MNO’s handsets without having to pay to unlock them.
So, if you’ve planning on defecting and have an existing Vodafone handset, you could be in clover and save yourself another £10 (for the unlocking)!
