BT to start selling a BlackBerry Style hybrid handset?
Ratings: Will it work????
They Say: BT, the UK’s main fixed line carrier is according to the The Times going to try and make a hybrid BlackBerry style device. The device will switch from BT wireless home hub to Vodafone’s mobile network after you leave the inner sanctum of your BT home Wi-Fi network.
We say: Now, they have tried this before with a Motorola device and using Bluetooth, both solutions failed to work properly and were shelved. The concept is a brilliant one, one phone, that moves with you wherever you go automatically switching networks..if it could do this to make sure the end user always got the cheapest call say using VOIP in public Wi-Fi hot spots this would be the ultimate device.
If they could also integrate this into a business PBX you would really be connected to your office..lets hope they get this one working…..watch this space!!! Sooner than I thought!!!! :-))))))
UPDATE: According to Pocket-Lint ” BT has launched BT Total Broadband Anywhere, an all-inclusive package which offers a free, internet-capable smartphone – the BT ToGo, and BT’s Total Broadband service in the home.
From £23.99 per month, the new BT Total Broadband Anywhere option claims to deliver the “most complete broadband experience”, both at home and out and about – for surfing the web, sending and receiving emails, making calls or texting.
Broadband Anywhere customers get a choice of two BT ToGo smartphones – the HTC S620 or S710 – both powered by Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.
When in range of a Wi-Fi hotspot, the BT ToGo connects to the Internet at broadband speeds and provides cheaper calls through BT Broadband Talk.”
