Buzzd goes Android

Rating: Sadly only works in North America

It had to happen. That combination between a social network and a local facilities search engine which is Buzzd has come out on an Android platform. Its author, however,  is still restricting the app to North America.

Reportedly, the most popular feature in this city guide style app is the ‘buzzdmeter’. This is a real-time measure of activity at popular bars, restaurants and nightclubs in your city.

“With the buzzdmeter, users can see the places with the most real-time activity (the buzz) in their city, neighbourhood, and even activity within walking distance or the block they’re standing on,” the company maintains. Terrific.

“The buzzdmeter has become the core feature of our app, cross-platform. We solved a technical challenge on the back-end to search, index and present hundreds of thousands of pieces of real-time content from Twitter and other sources,” commented Deepen Shah, Buzzd’s CTO.

Apparently, buzzd’s Android app is utilising all the features of its iPhone counterpart which made it popular.

The company has also launched new versions of its iPhone, Blackberry, mobile and PC web offerings that enable Facebook and Twitter integration.

This is the best claim … “Buzzd’s new mobile web version has been redesigned for quick venue searching and real-time feedback on venues. ” Sounds interesting.

This is the worst claim. “Rate a venue with a thumbs up/down [is now possible].”  Hmm. Why wasn’t that in there already?
