Bytemobile launches its new Unison Mobile Internet Platform for network operators

Bytemobile today announced its new Unison Mobile Internet Platform. The new version of Unison is intended to be installed right in the core of a network, and Bytemobile claims it will increase data traffic speed, allow better operator services and improve on-line Internet browsing on a mobile device.

Unison is essentially a package for three Bytemobile services – the Optimization and Services Node (OSN), the Web Fidelity Suite and the Media Fidelity Suite. The OSN handles data traffic – reducing network volumes, allowing the operator to provide better management services, and providing analysis and metrics. The Web Fidelity Suite and the Media Fidelity Suite are both geared towards making sure on-line web pages transfer easily and smoothly onto the mobile web.

From the release:

“Bytemobile’s rich product portfolio addresses the specific challenges and opportunities facing operators today, ranging from explosive data traffic growth and diversification to service differentiation and personalized mobile web browsing,” said Adrian Hall, Bytemobile chief marketing officer. “While the Unison architecture obviates the traditional need to deploy point products from multiple vendors, its flexible, open nature enables operators to intelligently integrate services developed by Bytemobile and other providers.”

What we think?

Whew… Bytemobile really claims a pretty comprehensive service there. If they can do even half the things they claim, then they’re pretty good news for any operator who’s planning on putting a lot of resources into mobile Internet. Which, from the number of 3G and 4G networks we’re seeing being established at the moment, is a lot. In fairness, it’s good to see someone worry about backend services. When 4G networks become more widespread, we’re going to see ways more data being moved across networks (I’ve seen it estimated that a 4G connection will let you download a 700mg movie in one minute).
