Nokia finally makes it into the uSwitch Top Ten with WP8 Lumia 520
In the latest uSwitch.com Mobile Tracker survey, Apple smartphones have taken the Top Three slots as the most searched for handsets in the UK – with the iPhone 5 sitting in Pole Position. This has sent Samsung’s Galaxy S4 tumbling to fourth position. Here at GoMo News we reckon that it is cynical Brits are cashing in on a potential bargain which has caused the iPhone 5 to top the rankings. After all, they all know that once Apple announces its latest handset(s) this month, nobody will want the iPhone 5. Therefore, resellers will be desperate to get the iPhone 5 off their shelves – now! However, there’s good news for Nokia too because the Lumia 520 has entered the chart at Number Ten.
uSwitch.com’s data is, of course, derived from Omio‘s network of comparison sites, which includes uSwitch.com and a number of leading consumer technology websites which total in excess of 10 million monthly page views.
In August, all three iPhones sat at the top of the uSwitch.com Mobile Tracker chartbased on live searches, pre-orders and sales – for the second consecutive month.
Ernest Doku, telecoms expert at uSwitch.com, commented, ”Naturally, rumours abound that Apple will compliment a premium device with a mid-range handset launch in September has sent the hype machine into overdrive.”
He adds,”But things are likely to heat up from September, as the race to be Christmas number one kicks off.
“Berlin’s IFA trade show [this week] will showcase this winter’s hottest new handsets from the major manufacturers.
“Plus, the arrival of 4G to the UK from Vodafone and O2 has reinvigorated interest in the latest offerings.
Significantly, the HTC One is the highest-ranking handset not from the ‘Big Two’ -holding its mid-table, sixth position for the second month running.
uSwitch.com claims this is because with its social-media integrated home screen and thousands of straight-out-the-box, Google-operated apps, it’s competing on the fun factor with Apple.
Lagging behind is the Sony Xperia Z which slips down one place to ninth.
iSwitch.com thinks that while it may indeed boast Bravia technology, PlayStation games, and a polyamide glass fibre shell, this smartphone isn’t immune to a reality check.
The arrival of the Lumia 520 -Windo Phone 8′s (WP8′s) most popular phone is a massive boost for Nokia which normally struggles to reach the Top Ten chart month after month.
Another fun-filled handset, the Lumia 520 sports on-the-go features including Nokia Mix Radio, which works like Spotify to provide playlist mixes, and turn-by-turn directions service HERE maps.
