Very interesting remarks made by Ville Heijari, a vp with Finland’s Rovio, makers of the addictive game Angry Birds. Talking to the Sunday Times, Heijari says that his company’s game engage “with people who don’t normally play games at all.” Yet Rovio is planning to do the exact opposite and produce version of Angry Birds which will run on the PS3, Xbox and Wii plus the Mac and PC. All strong games platforms. So the two worlds – dedicated games consoles and smartphones – are already colliding. What’s going to happen next? Mining the data it compiles from its monthly Djuzz charts, enigmatic content provider – BuzzCity – has concluded that content localisation and featurephone support are going to prove key factors in 2011. Dr. BuzzCity CEO, Dr KF Lai, says that, “Localisation is one of the key elements required to better engage mobile users and it’s likely that this trend will further develop in 2011.” By localisation, Dr Lai doesn’t mean just throwing a couple of local celebrities into the mix. MocoSpace mobile gamers spend big bucks on digital goods
MocoSpace is the biggest mobile pure-play social network in the States, with 15 million users – and when it announced in September that it was massively expanding it’s browser-based mobile gaming platform, we were eager to see what the results would be like. Now it has released a look into how MocoSpace gamers have been using the platform; and it claims that it’s users spend almost 13 times the amount of cash on virtual goods as Facebook games.
