Branded as the first iPhone game for application discovery, GoMo News suspects that Angel’s Choice from YD Online is actually a heavily disguised training tool aimed at those plenty to invest in iPhone apps. You play against others to see what applications they recommend but in reality you tap into an experienced source of experts – iPhone gamers. Aurora Feint is one of the big champions of truly cross-platform mobile gaming, through its OpenFeint platform (more on that below). Mobile gaming goes fully cross platform with Aurora Feint
This evening’s launch of Apple’s Game Center has really lit a fire under the mobile gaming industry. In particular, social gaming company Aurora Feint seems to have gone into overdrive. Today, it has announced the launch of a new SDK called PlayTime, which will allow any games developer to make their game a true cross-platform app – allowing gamers on Android and iPhone to play with (or against) one another. A enterprising British software house, Neon Play, has achieved an impressive 0.25 million downloads in just one day for its Golf Putt Pro game for the iPhone. That has promoted the company to Number Two in the UK and US free iPhone download charts. This means that neon Play has managed over one million iPhone downloads for its first two games. Mobile games are feeling the pinch from Apple
The mobile gaming industry is definitely worried about Apple’s social gaming hub, Game Centre. Just yesterday, Scoreloop announced a major social gaming network deal with Taiwan operator Chunghwa Telecom… who specifically mentioned that this was to compete with Game Centre. PSP Phone won’t suffer from the same problems as N-Gage
The news that Sony is planning to release its own phone is being widely reported. Starting with a report on Engadget, the news that Sony Ericsson seems to be designing a mobile device that combines portable gaming (via the PSP) with mobile technology (via Android) has been happily received – by most. But an immediate comment I heard was “hasn’t this already been tried? The N-Gage from Nokia was a complete disaster!” And so I present the reasons that a PSP Phone won’t suffer the same problems as the N-Gage. Continue reading
