Bitrix24 to offer all-in-one social enterprise app fro mobile
Rating: And it’s free to firms with less than 12 people
Social networking does work. GoMobile News received a hot tip via LinkedIn from Dmitry Valyanov from Bitrix24 about the impending release of the mobile versions (iOS and Android app) of his company’s software. Bitrix24 puts of whole host of common enterprise activities – task management, document sharing, and time tracking, into just this one social networking style app. As he Dmitry says, why have one account for BaseCamp and another for DropBox and another for SugarCRM and another one for social networking Not only is this expensive, it’s impractical as well. And the good news is that for companies with 12 or fewer employees, the software is still free. Continue reading

Bitdefender reveals lack of security amongst top iOS app on iTunes
Rating: Names, names and Leads 360 is an offender
It’s not that often that you actually find a software house willing to name names, but it appears that Bitdefender – which supplies antivirus solutions for iOS, is brave enough. It claims that Leads 360 features a major security flaw. This is more than a tad worrying since Leads 360 has not only made its way onto the Apple iTunes App Store – it also boasts a pretty high rating of 4+ (out of 5). The study by Bitdefender not only reveals that a large number of iOS apps broadcast unencrypted data but some track an Apple device’s UDID, (Unique Device Identifier) too. This is despite Apple’s advice to developers that should switch to away from UDIDs and use less intrusive IDs in their apps. (See our previous story here). Continue reading
Expect a flurry of M& A activity
Rating: Blog draws heavily on Opera & InnerActive research
A very interesting piece from Levi Shapiro, who is a Professor in the Media Innovation Lab at IDC, which appeared on the Jerusalem Post’s blog here. In it Shapiro speculates that 2013 will become a year of consolidation in the mobile advertising world. “Expect to see extensive M&A activity in the next few quarters,” Shapiro predicts. The guy backs his opinions with a whole range of third party research but his chief sources are mobile browser specialist, Opera and ad exchange InnerActive. GoMobile News believes that Shapiro could well be right. look at the recent announcement from inMobi here, for example. Continue reading

BSkyB updates its Sky Sports for iPad app for more F1 action
Rating: GoMo discovers the best way to watch Sky F1 via iOS
BSkyB offers a number of apps to iOS owners. However, just in time for the Santander formula 1 British Grand prix 2012 on July 8th, the satellite TV broadcaster has updated its Sky Sports of iPad app which can be found here. The new ‘F1 companion experience’ features split-screen technology – allowing users to simultaneously follow action from two different cameras angles. The updated Sky Sports for iPad app is available for free from Apple’s iTunes App Store but it is also available to non-Sky customers on a standalone basis for £4.99 per month through in-app purchase. Don’t be fooled by this last option, though. Non-Sky customers still won’t have access to the F1 channel through the paid-for app. You want the Sky Sports TV app for that. Continue reading

Confusion reigns over RBS Get Cash facility
Rating: Is it restricted to Scottish Android-owning customers presently?
The Royal Bank of Scotland put out the news on June 13th [2012] that, ” From today RBS and NatWest customers can choose to ditch their debit cards in favour of their Android phones, with a new innovation that allows them to ‘GetCash’ from an ATM without needing a debit card.” The Banks customers can request the cash on their mobile and a six digit pin will be generated. This code is entered at an ATM; the amount of cash confirmed, and funds distributed accordingly. Great. Ben Green, head of mobile at NatWest and RBS, commented, “This has never been done anywhere in the UK, and yet is a really simple and secure way to help our customers get cash whenever and wherever they need it.” Unfortunately, it didn’t make it very clear which handsets could use the app and which customers are eligible. Rating: Gives bloggers the chance to monetise their content
Claiming to be the Number One blogging platform in Europe, Overblog, has now launch of its new platform into the UK. The idea behind Overblog is that it brings together the fragmented social postings of bloggers into a single live stream. Significantly, there are many aspects of Overblog that are entirely mobile friendly. For example, Overblog supports live video streaming from your mobile phone. The major incentive for bloggers to migrate to the Overblog platform, however, seems to be the chance to monetise their content. This facility has been made pssible by a merger between Overblog and Ebuzzing – a leader in social video advertising back in 2010. Continue reading

GoMo discovers neat F1 Timing app on official site
Rating: A great way to keep track of your favourite Formula One driver
Here at GoMobile Towers we’re pretty much a bunch of petrolheads and the Formula One Grand Prix is our special favourite. The snag is that currently here in Blighty (the UK), certain races are only shown live on pay-per-view TV. In our case, BSkyB’s Sky F1 channel. Now the normal way for any Brit to deal with such a situation is to go down the pub (bar) and watch F1 on the big screen. The trouble is that the UK is a nation of footie and rugby fans and there’s a Spain versus Italy soccer match right in the middle of this weekend’s Canadian Grand Prix. Trying to sort out this mess, GoMobile News happened to visit Formula One’s mobile friendly web site – http://mobile.formula1.com/ where we noticed the official F1 2012 Timing app. We just had to download it.
