iPhone_scam Reader tries to post a free iPhone scam on GoMo

You probably won’t get vouchers let alone an iPhone

We’re not exactly sure what the point behind this scam is but we’re 100 per cent positive you won’t get a free iPhone out of it. A reader calling himself Jami Hermann left a comment for us here on GoMo News claiming that he’d found a totally free means of obtaining an iPhone 3 for free. He provided a URL for his ‘web site’ but actually it point at a YouTube video here. The video – made by one Steve Aoki is entitled ‘Cheap Iphone 3 | How to Legally Get a cheap Iphone 3′. The graphic accompanying the video, promises the chance to test and keep an iPhone 5 not an iPhone 3. If you do bother to try this, like us you’ll probably just end up on a voucher site. January wasn’t a dry month says Shopitize

Rating: By Jan 14th they’re all on the champers

Nice little diary item from Shopitize – an app which manages to combine barcode scanning, coupons and a loyalty scheme in one. The snippet related to the myth that (in the UK, at least) January is some kind of ‘dry’ month – when the population swears off alcohol. According to data gathered by Shopitize, however, nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, the type of drink most favoured by app users was champagne (sparkling wines) whilst at the other end of the spectrum, no-one bought any hard liquor on January 14th [2013]. Continue reading

mobeamLogo Mobeam & ProLogic to promote mobile digital coupon tech

Rating: Works with existing PoS but requires LED inside handset

Here’s an interesting partnership. Mobeam which has specialist mobile phone technology has formed and alliance with ProLogic which operates a coupon clearing house facility for US based retailers. The beauty of this joint effort is that it won’t require any new equipment to be installed at the point-of-sale – it works with existing PoS systems. The only catch is that Mobeam doesn’t quite explain how it is going to get its technology onto existing handsets as well as persuading handset makers to build the technology into their future mobile phones. QRlicious-vs-regular QRlicious claims America is going through a QR Code Crisis

Rating: Serious over -exaggerations of our time

Here we go .. tenuous links to the London Olympics of our time. Matt Jones, co-founder of QRlicious writes, “As the political atmosphere heats up here in the USA and tensions grow during the heated competitions going on in the Olympics, we here at QRlicious felt it was the perfect time to address America’s QR Code Crisis. Jones then goes on to ask us to sign a petition. There’s no real petition and we’d hardly describe the situation as a ‘crisis’ but Jones has put all of GoMobile News’ gripes about the amateurish use of QR codes by marketers in one place. On the QRlicious web site. Continue reading

eagleeye-logo Retailers may try to block in-store mobile surfing

Rating: It’s one of the predictions from Eagle Eye

It’s a bit early to be running predictions for 1012 but we couldn’t resist running some of the musings from Russell Buckley CMO with Eagle Eye – a company which claims to be big in mobile coupons and gift vouchers. Some of the things he says about a mobile comms strategy for retailers, for example, aren’t so much predictions but more like recommendations. For a company that’s into mobile vouchers it was also interesting to note that Buckley has also spotted the trend with AR (augmented reality) which could easily take off like a rocket in 2012. The best prediction, however, is the one where he believes that some stores might actually take serious steps to prevent smartphone users getting onto price comparison sites whilst in-store. Whoah! microsoft-tag-gomo-news SnapTags from Spyderlynk vs QR Codes plus Microsoft Tag

It is highly unlikely that SnapTags from Spyderlynk will completely replace QR Codes. QR Codes are like legacy systems – they just keep on going! But seriously, QR code providers should start thinking of a contingency plan as the competition is just getting better.
