One reason why Android developers are blatantly earning less than Apple iOS developers is the former’s fraught route to market. Apple apps can be purchased and paid for via iTunes which is an well-established global sales channel. With Android Market, if you live outside the USA then paying for apps is fraught with difficulties. Finally Google is getting to grips with the problem and has just signed up its second US mobile operator- AT&T. The news filtered out of the Android developers’ blog here. As Eric Chu from the Android Developer Ecosystem put it, “AT&T Android users can now easily charge their Android Market purchases to their monthly accounts with only a few clicks.” Continue reading

Rating: Great way to monetise your Android apps

At a stroke Orange appears to have grabbed a big slice of the Android app market with its Orange Partner Connect programme. The global operator (part of France Telecom) is offering developers a 70/30 revenue share on any apps they sell via the Orange App Shop. The ace up the sleeve is that Orange customers will not only be able to pay in their local currency but also via their phone bills. Orange is also offering developers help with app creation and the chance to plough some of their initial earnings back in promoting their wares on the Orange App Store itself. Continue reading
