Clearwire and Aicent team up for international WiMAX roaming

The area is absolutely crawling with tech start-ups, but today I interviewed a much more established company. Tobias Kemper, VP of Nimbuzz in America, talked about the future of the company, including operator relations, social gaming and dating, and its intent to stay away from advertising support! Nimbuzz also wants to pioneer in the field of contextually relevant location, something we should be seeing a lot of from them in the months to come.

party-labI’ve long been a fan of the Joint Innovation Lab and what it stands for (see below), so I was delighted to see the news today. Four major mobile handset makers have signed on to the organisation, providing a solid base to what was previously a group comprised only of operators. Perhaps most importantly, one of those manufacturers is RIM - meaning that the JIL has also gotten the support of a mobile operating system with a decent and popular app store.

The EU Commission is in the midst of an argument with Germany’s Federal Network Agency over “anti-competitive” behaviour in mobile spectrum auctions. The South African government has stepped in and directly ordered operators to lower their costs by the end of November… and more.

Spanish based barcode company Bems has become the exclusive partner of Telefónica for 2d barcodes in Latin America.
