Well, this all started off very well. Nokia sent us a message via Facebook saying, “Do you start off the year with the best intentions, but find yourself conveniently forgetting those New Year ’s resolutions? Nokia N8 Virgin Media endorses Nokia N8 big time

Just four days after its commercial release in the UK, Nokia‘s first ever Symbian ^3 handset – the N8 – is going to come with a Virgin Media Player app pre-loaded. The app is intended to highlight the content capabilities of Virgin Media’s three-play offering. It’s nice to see a leading company investing time and effort in a Symbian app for example. mblox iPhone apps most popular with UK retailers

Rating: Straw poll of mobile marketing use by mBlox

According to research done by mBlox with a small number (109) retailers in the UK, Apple apps are the most popular bespoke mobile apps. The company reckons that 42 per cent of UK retailers have employed an Apple/iOS app to reach consumers, followed by 17 per cent using an Android app and 10 per cent a BlackBerry app. Nokia/Ovi came a poor fourth with just 3.7 per cent just above Windows Mobile with 2.8 per cent. X factor Exclusive X Factor app is still missing from Ovi

A very modest announcement on Nokia‘s Facebook page confirms that it has indeed secured an exclusive app for the X Factor 2010 TV show. This app will only be available from the Ovi store, so that means no Android or iPhone version which is something of a coup. Attempts to discover exactly what Nokia handsets can run it failed because it isn’t there yet despite a promised release date of today. Continue reading

It’s refreshing to see a service – TripAdvisor – offer a comprehensive range of mobile apps – not just apps for the Android and iPhone fanboys.
