A new series of geo-targeted mobile ads, promoting Mazda’s latest range of cars (New Mazda 6 and CX-5), will be running on a popular community based navigation app. The first in the UK to use this type of location based advertising so that they are delivered only when the user is in the vicinity of a car dealership. The deal, devised by Mapp Media and Mindshare UK, the media buying agency for Mazda, is a first for this kind of mobile, geo-targeted ad in the UK. The sophistication of mobile advertising means that Mazda can now target drivers using mobiles to direct them straight to their dealerships, and in some cases, away from the competition. December 12th 2013. The cost of calling businesses and services will become clearer for [UK] consumers under major changes to telephone charging, Ofcom has announced. The measures are designed to tackle consumer confusion1 about how much it costs to call companies, public bodies and other organisations on numbers starting 08, 09 and 118. These ‘non-geographic’ service numbers have a range of uses, from finding out information to banking, directory enquiry and entertainment services. Currently, unless they are using a BT line, callers to these numbers are not generally informed how much they will be charged. Continue reading

December 9th 2013, Nearly half (42 per cent) of consumers in Great Britain (GB) don’t feel any of the marketing communications they receive from businesses via their mobile devices are relevant or useful, according to research by integrated mobile solutions specialist Oxygen8 Group. The survey, which looked at what kinds of communications consumers currently receive on their mobile phone – including SMS messages, app notifications, email and automated voice messages – also identified that a further 44 per cent find less than a quarter of the messages they receive of value. Findings revealed from new research commissioned by Affinion International, the leading global provider of customer loyalty and engagement products, have highlighted the extent of Britons’ dependence on personal gadgets. The average consumer now spends over four hours per day using the various gadgets they own for personal, non-business related tasks – equivalent to an annual total of 60 days per year. The report compiled by retail research specialists Conlumino finds that the average consumer’s daily gadget usage has seen an increase of an hour compared to just five years ago, and an increase of two and half hours compared with ten years ago. 27th November 2013– Adfonic, the smart buying platform, has released its Q3 2013 Global AdMetrics Report showing that tablets have doubled their share of mobile ad impressions over the past year, and that within the tablet format, Apple’s iPad in particular gained share. Tablets’ share of overall impressions grew from 14 per cent in Q4 2012 to 28 per cent in Q3 2013, while the iPad’s share of tablet impressions grew from 58 per cent to 76 per cent over the same period.
