Cellcrypt provides secure, encrypted VoIP calls targeted at government agencies and businesses, but also available for private individuals. The downloadable app costs 2,800 euro to use for one year.
Cellcrypt claims that regular mobile voice calls are hugely insecure – that hackers with the right equipment can compromise any GSM network worldwide. By using VoIP, Cellcrypt bypasses the normal network system and is able to supply much better security software. The application also allows users to make calls to landlines and other mobiles.
Right now it only works on Nokia E and N series devices and certain Windows Mobile devices. BlackBerry support will be launched in the next two months.
What we think?
I’m not qualified to comment on the uses of this application – I’ve never had a conversation over the phone that was so important it required protection from mysterious listeners. However I guess if you’re a government agency or large corporation, then having that extra layer of security would be cheap for under 3,000 euro. Problems immediately spring to mind when it comes to operator co-operation though. They’ve proven remarkably resistant to VoIP of all forms – although Cellcrypt may be hoping that the niche appeal and large price tag of it’s service will keep it small enough that the carriers won’t object to it.

Cian,
You are correct. The average person is not going to pay over $3,500.00 for a one year license for encryption on a cell phone. But there are those out there that DO want that safety on their communications. Military, Government, and High Net Worth Individuals do NOT want someone listening in. And $3,500.00 is a large amount of money to spend!
I would invite you and anyone else interested to contact me and try myKryptofon. This product is a fraction of the cost ($300USD). The product is currently available on all Window’s Mobile cell phones, with Blackberry coming in the next month, followed by the iPhone. The program is more than a SIP phone. It offers an instant message feature and file transfer which can both be encrypted as well.
For yourself and GoMo News readers, I will put out the next 20 copies of myKryptofon for a free 15-day trail. This will include a PC verision for your Desktop and a copy for your Window’s Mobile phone. The PC desktop version is free, and if you like the product, I will cut the retail price drastically!
I look forward to your response.
Eric
