Celltick idle screen service LiveScreen Media no longer needs special SIM cards

I keep going hot, cold warm on Celltick as a company in the idle screen space as I feel that it has underachieved – despite an incredible early mover advantage.

One itchy spot for Celltick has been the demand for new SIM cards for use of the service. This can be a nightmare to manage and a headache for operators and consumers. So, in an article I wrote on Celltick mid-last year I suggested that the company move to a client format and about six months on… its been achieved!

From the press release
Celltick’s pre-launch tests of the new client have shown remarkable results. In a pilot conducted in North America 48% of focus group members who received the application interacted with the system over the course of 21 days, generating a remarkable average of 10 transactions per clicker.

Stephen Dunford, CEO of Celltick, said: “LiveScreen Media is the leading idle screen marketing platform. This product extension presents an opportunity for our partner operators and global internet leaders to capitalize on the booming market of smart phones and open environments. Our new solution removes the barriers to reaching the end user with a compelling user interface which serves as a proven platform for mobile advertising.”

What we think
It’s not the year of the idle screen yet – even though I have been predicting it will be. But with a new client and without the SIM headache – Celltick is making the right moves.

I am pretty sure integrating the idle-screen can only be done on S60 and Windows Mobile platform. J2ME apps cannot trigger that effect because J2ME is a layer above the core mobile-phone OS platform… Now, I am just curious what are the platforms or handsets models Celltick have covered so far?
