Rating: not bad!

Earlier this month Cellufun, the US mobile community portal and multi-player games company, announced that 2 million users had downloaded its mobile multiplayer games.

What they say
“The recent additions of several games and the expansion of mobile portal community features have fuelled an explosive surge in our growth,” said Arthur Goikhman, Cellufun’s CEO. “A bit more than a year ago, when we rolled out our first game, we were getting 300 mobile game downloads a day – today, we’re getting as many as 20,000 a day. We are serving as much game content as any major wireless carrier, and are on track for 1.5 million visitors and 10 million page views for December 2006.” Cellufun offers WAP games, chat and mobile member profile pages in addition to downloadable games.

What we think

Cellufun’s WAP portal is a gaming community heaven because it’s free and the games are simple, and apparently appeals to women and men in equal measure.

We tested Mobile Pet II. It was easy to get the hang of it and fun. You can also add people to the group or your clique to swap tips and so on with them. The portal could do with a bit more of user interaction though: a straightforward friends list is not enough to build a community. Still, it’s early days and 2007 might just be the year (finally) for multiplayer gaming.
