Chat with GetJar SVP Bill Scott

I have been meaning to interview and talk to Bill Scott Senior Vice President for Business Development at GetJar for a couple of months now, so it was great to bump into him at the MMF in Budapest.

So we had a chat and I asked him to impress me. He said that when he started at GetJar the average was 8 million downloads a month and now its 16 million.
OK – I agree – not bad!

Then we spoke about the new Visual Bookmark service.
 
What is the Visual Bookmark?

Basically if you don’t have to have a native application for the phone you can make one and get free distribution on Getjar by uploading images and graphic to a URL. These links are then created into Java (or Symbian or Blackberry) applications for the developer.

What did I think?
I saw it before it was launched and I wasn’t overly impressed. But only because at the time I thought it was just a link to the site and not an application that was crated…but it seems that brands have been impressed.

Good. I am going to create a couple and also set up some visibility mobile stuff on GetJar.
