Chat with Mayur Pitamber Openwave Product Manager Mobile Analytics
I had a delightful phone call with Mayur Pitamber Product Management Strategist at Openwave yesterday – here is an over view on our discussion on Openwave Mobile Analytics.
Bena: Hi Mayur. Openwave has many hats what is the best way to describe the company?
Mayur : Sure. I would say a leading vendor of mobile software with twelve years of global experience. Software, Advertising and Service management are vital for us.
Bena: Great so what about analytics you said you were also an early mover in the market on a comment on GoMo News.
Mayur: Openwave has been in mobile analytics since 2005. The main product is the mobile business intelligence platform. This is what we use to provide a rich set of reporting services and capabilities that track user behaviour.
Bena: So what types of things do you track and for whom?
Mayur: Mobile operators are our targets. We can track top ten sites, how long users are spending on the site – all sorts of reporting services. Basically everything that is useful for a content provider or an operator.
Even if the operator has a number of portals from Disney or ESPN we can track where the customers are going on or off portal and what they are doing there.
Bena: How is this demonstrated?
Mayur: Basically we have a user interface that allows brands to special promotions as well as brands. Our rich report features and functionality enables direct tracking of what users are doing.
Bena: Don’t shoot me but is this why you only service the operator because they have a controlled environment – do you use cookies?
Mayur: No Bena. Not at all. We have a suite of operator services and this is one of them. It is independent of the browser – we sit on the operator network. The Business Intelligence Platform can track all users, all devices and every action. The statistics give operators the ability to know their users and target their needs.
Bena: So do you sell the data?
Mayur: No. We do not sell any statistics – we only sell the platform. The platform is installed on the networks and then operators can use or sell or republish any of the content as their own.
Bena: So, unlike your competitors that can track publishers and operators – you focus on operators.
Mayur: There are two ways to look at this. We track the subscribers for the operators. But if our mobile advertising solution is used we can track specific mobile sites as well. So we can track publishers too –
Bena: Aha. So. I get it. The BIP (Business Intelligence Platform) is for operators. But anyone can have analytics if they use your mobile advertising solution as you can track where the sites are getting hits and traffic from the publishers etc.
Mayur: Exactly!
Bena: Thank-you so much for taking the time!
Some big news from Openwave coming and another interview to follow…
