Chat with Murali Aravamudan founder and CEO of Veveo video mobile search

So I had some questions for Veveo after reading the press release on the vtap feed. I spoke to the company CEO Murali Aravamudan.

Bena: I thought you were a pure mobile search player, what happened?

Murali: When we launched we overestimated the growth and advancement of mobile devices. We thought video would be standard by now on all devices already and mobile search would be predominant. This has not happened because devices are simply not good enough. The services are there and are improving but the technology is letting us down. It is our belief that video will be the driver of consuming information on mobile. But we realised that one modality was not enough. Multi-modal search and discovery was required to make the most of what video can offer – on the available technology.

We changed our focus from pure search to consumption. We thought about what users want and need and how they can digest it on mobile. Using feeds is excellent for this.

For us, search is vital. But incremental search and automatic search are the vital new drivers that the feed brings to vtap. Users get suggestions of similar services they enjoy if requested or consumer exactly what they want as they want in video.

Bena: So what is your value add in one sentence?

Murali: Our value proposition is understanding how people consumer so that the context of the video is always relevant and searchable offering a complete media experience for mobile video.
