Chat with Rogers Wireless VP Content Michael Allen

by: Bena Roberts Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

I bumped in to Michael Allen at the QuickPlay event last night. He introduced himself and I declared, I knew very very little about Rogers. I said, I knew of a mobile search deployment and that was it.

Yikes. Michael Allen rolled up his sleeves – put his hand in his pocket and pulled out a fully loaded huge mother of a Blackberry device and started playing me a massive commercial for Rogers.

I was too shocked to be impressed as he looked me in the eye and said, “we ARE a media company”.

Well, the video looked hot and with conviction like that – who am I to argue.

But seriously. I have dismissed Canada (sorry) as not important, but apparently some great things are going on. Quadruple play is already taking place at Rogers and content is a viable and valuable business across all segments not just mobile.

Content is perceived as a combined driver be in on cable, mobile, fixed or TV – multi-modal is a reality. I mentioned Nuance and so far I think that in mobile Nuance might be stealing a lead in Canada.

Rogers Wireless – you are now officially on the GoMo News radar.
