CinemaNow - remote downloading to your desktop via your handset.
Rating: Oi you..turn that mobile off will you!
I mentioned a few days ago here on GoMo about Motorola’s forthcoming movie download offering and now I read about CinemaNow. Although this service doesn’t allow you to download to your mobile device it apparently allows easier remote downloading to your desktop, so that when you get home your movie is waiting for you, ready for the evenings viewing entertainment!.
If you don’t know what to watch CinemaNow offers you the chance to view trailers of the 10,000 films, TV shows and videos they have in their catalogue on your mobile and then start the download process to your pc at home or in the office right there from your handset device. The trailers are encoded with H.264 making them viewable on most handsets.
Said David Cook, President and COO of CinemaNow “This partnership with uVuMobile has helped CinemaNow pioneer another first-to-market digital distribution method that we expect will make a tremendous difference in the industry by giving customers access to movies any time, anywhere.”
We say: Ok well had a quick look at their web site. It seems you can only buy movies with the mobile service instead of renting them which you can do on their web site. You first have to sign up at their web site and download their media manager to your PC and then you can browse and order via your mobile..no media manager for the Mac I see….hmm. I expect we will see a lot of firms entering this space before downloads to mobiles take off due to bandwidth availability and Data costs. I haven’t seen their media manager but I think companies like this should offer you the ability to copy the movie to your handset either whole or in parts that will fit on your phones memory via USB/Bluetooth.
