Comverse’s latest release of Visual Voicemail will work on BlackBerry devices. The Visual Voicemail solution adds plenty of data to any voicemail left for a user. Messages will arrive in the BlackBerry’s inbox, visually tagged with it’s date, time and length, the caller’s phone number and identity (if available). You can then listen to the voicemail by clicking the text.
Visual Voicemail is part of Comverse Voice HUB, an advanced voicemail and voice-related services platform.
From the release:
“While the user can take pleasure in a true visual voicemail experience to save money and time, service providers can benefit from a boost in customer satisfaction, as well as enjoy increases in voicemail usage and penetration in key consumer and business segments,” said John Bunyan, chief marketing officer of Comverse. “Comverse is already meeting the fast-paced needs of today’s users with more than half of the world’s visual voicemail deployments to date and is well positioned to extend its leadership position in the visual voicemail arena.”
What we think?
I think I can be forgiven for thinking that “visual voicemail” would involve leaving a video of yourself in someone’s inbox. So, slightly misleading name!
I think I can also be forgiven for seeing this as a fairly cynical press release. The Visual Voicemail service has been around for awhile now. The only real news here is that it’ll be operational on all upcoming Blackberry models. So what’s the real news here? When I read that press release, what I see written on the screen is “uh oh, Google Voice is coming… better look busy”
