Cricket MVNO releases Samsung SCH-R211 device on unlimited payplans

Cricket Communications and Samsung Mobile today announced that the Samsung SCH-r211 is now available to Cricket customers. The MVNO specialises in unlimited monthly plans for text, talk and mobile web access.

The r211 can be used in all Cricket markets, starting from $30 per month.

From the release:

“The r211 is an extremely attractive and durable device for customers who want easy access to all the services and features they need to conduct their mobile lifestyles,” said Jeff Toig, vice president of product marketing for Cricket. “The r211 brings the Samsung brand and high value to Cricket’s sub-$100 retail category and is an excellent way for customers to take advantage of Cricket’s unlimited plans.”

What we think?

Not everything needs to be a smartphone. The r211 isn’t the most sleek machine on the market, but it’s functional and web-capable with a decent camera. Combine that with fairly reasonable web billing from Cricket, and it looks like a very cloud-friendly device. More and more companies are offering on-network and cloud-based services that can replicate smartphone functions on lower end devices. This kind of offer is well worth keeping an eye out for if you’re a mobile device enthusiast on a low budget.

  1. Cian says:

I made a significant mistake in the above article which requires clarification. Cricket Wireless is NOT an MVNO. It is a subsidiary of Leap Wireless, and owns it’s own licenses and towers.

  2. Bena Roberts says:

Thanks Cian – but in all fairness to you – the company says that it acts like and MVNO so (do a search for Cricket on google and see for yourself) – don’t sweat it and who ever in Cricket Communications – linda grubb? who wrote an extremely unprofessional and rude comment on GoMo news – should be ashamed of themselves.

  3. Greg says:

The headline on this story is wrong. Cricket is not an MVNO. Cricket builds and operates its own networks in each of the markets where it offers service. Thanks.
