CTIA: Demo of voice search with Yahoo!’s Lee Ott Director of Product Management
After the panel session on mobile search at CTIA, I rushed up to Lee Ott from Yahoo! to say that I loved the news today. He thanked me for the post earlier and he said that it “made him smile” when he read it. I realise that this is because I don’t often have fab things to say.
But then, I couldn’t resist and I told him, “voice search doesn’t work”. He said yes it does!
So he took out his Blackberry and said “supercalifragilisticexpialidocious”. Yikes. It worked.
Then in front of about five executives, I asked him if I could try. He laughed and said yes.
So in my clearest possible voice I said, “swimming pool”.
Guess what the returned result was?
“Yeah”.
We all laughed including Lee. I didn’t work!
He didn’t make excuses he said that the service could be trained and when it was launched in the UK - he would make sure that Chloe Graff sent me one. He said, “WHEN it works - its addictive”.
Me dears, I will be waiting!
I will write up the highlights of the panel session at CTIA on Mobile Search when my hand stops hurting. I think I have bloggers finger. But I did giggle when Medio’s Brian Lent congratulated Yahoo! on voice search and pointed out that it was “copying Medio’s lead” in the area.
Not to be out done - Dan Olschwang from JumpTap also told Yahoo! that JumpTap and Medio were the leaders in mobile search and already guru’s in mobile SEO.
